Several countries have adopted and increasingly more countries are exploring the JANS guidelines and tool in the process of developing the health sector strategies. Ethiopia is developing its fourth Health Sector Development Program (HSDP IV) for the period 2011-2015, building on the successful implementation of HSDP III.
Ethiopia is a hopeful country to reach the health MDGs despite its low income level, HSDP IV is seen as a crucial plan during the final rush to reach the MDGs. To rally everyone around the same set of priorities, the Ethiopia Government and development partners decided to use the JANS tool to finalize the HSDP IV. After being the first country to sign the IHP+ Compact globally, Ethiopia is among the first group of countries that conducted JANS. It experience in the JANS could be valuable to other developing countries. _________________________________________________________________________________
