Impact of the Financial Crisis: Benin

In a series of short videos citizens of Benin discuss how the global financial crisis is affecting work and life at home. (Video in French)

The current World Bank portfolio in Benin consists of ten projects for a total commitment of US$359 million equivalent. These include eight International Development Association (IDA) projects, one Education for All (EFA/FTI) project, two Global Environment facility (GEF) grants and an Emergency Food Security Support Program. IDA-funded projects mostly support:

  • Consolidation of economic reforms (budget support)
  • Human development (education, malaria, and HIV)
  • Urban infrastructure improvements
  • Energy services improvements
  • Private sector growth
  • Rural development
  • Environment
  • Community driven development
