What is the BDIC? The Botswana Development Information Center (BDIC) is a partnership initiative of the World Bank that includes the government, civil society organizations and development agencies active in Botswana. The BDIC is located in Gaborone at the Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis (BIDPA). Its objective is to promote information-sharing and access to development knowledge aimed at improving the effectiveness of development programs in Botswana. The center offers a range of facilities and services that stimulate development thinking through access to the latest knowledge and information available worldwide. It is a one-stop center for public access to information on development issues. Discussions on development issues are also part of the services of the Center through Development Dialogue sessions. Using the Center’s resources, the general public, researchers, policy makers and academia have an abundant source of development information. There is no membership fee to use the BDIC. The BDIC aims to provide a better understanding of development projects and facilitate effective engagement of stakeholders by enhancing openness and effective feedback. Free Publications The center provides information on the activities of official development agencies, civil society organizations and other development partners working in Botswana by acting as a one-stop center for their public information materials. The free publications include a comprehensive selection of brochures and booklets containing assistance strategies, sector policies, project summaries and annual reports. This collection is continually updated and is a rich source of information about the activities of Botswana’s official bilateral and multilateral development partners. The center also has on-hand publications and reference materials from local civil society groups that impact the development debate. Internet Access for Development Information The Internet is an essential tool for accessing global information. The BDIC’s two computer workstations are available free of charge to the public to access development information, databases and other information resources needed for research purposes. Photocopying and laser printer services are available for a nominal fee.
