Available in: Français
Approved yesterday by the World Bank Boad:

GRANT AMOUNT:
US$4.5 Million
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  This grant will assist in strengthening the capacity of rural communities to undertake an integrated management of their ecosystems, to reverse the degradation of their natural resource base, and alleviate poverty and vulnerability, in a semi arid country subject to low and variable rainfalls is one of the most vulnerable to global warming. Land degradation and desertification are the main environmental issues, resulting in decreased soil fertility, the loss of genetic diversity, declines in arable lands, decreased agricultural productivity, and deforestation. About 20 percent of arable lands have been lost during the past three decades, and yields have declined between 50 and 100 percent.   For more information, please call Herbert Boh at (202) 473-3548 or e-mail: hboh@worldbank.org   For project information documents, visit:
