The Bank supports Cameroon's development efforts with targeted analytical and advisory work. The Government of Cameroon has sought Bank guidance as it proceeds with the analysis of a proposed dam project at the confluence of the Lom and Pangar rivers. Although the Bank has made no commitment to support the project financially, it is assisting the Government with the economic analysis of the proposed dam, and has provided comments on the draft environmental impact studies. As with other major energy and infrastructure projects, there are a variety of economic, environmental and social issues that should be carefully assessed as part of a decision-making process. The following are comments that the Bank has provided to the Government on some of these issues:

Introduction
A la requête du Gouvernement Camerounais, la Banque mondiale a procédé à l’examen de l’Étude d’Impact Environnemental (EIE) du projet de barrage de Lom Pangar. Nous rappelons que, en formulant ces commentaires, la Banque mondiale ne prend pas position pour ou contre ce projet, et encore moins pour ou contre son éventuel financement. La Banque mondiale a pris note de l’intention du Gouvernement de conduire la préparation de ce projet selon des standards internationaux; dans nos commentaires, nous avons donc pris les sauvegardes environnementales et sociales de la Banque mondiale comme référence en la matière.
