 Cape Verde joined the World Bank in 1978. With an emphasis on national capacity building, policy reforms and private sector development, the Bank's support has played an important role in Cape Verde's economic and social development. The World Bank's Board of Executive Directors prepared a Country Assistance Strategy (CAS) for Cape Verde in 1997, and then updated the document with a CAS Progress Report (PDF) in August 2001.
