Democratic Republic Of Congo: Emergency Multisector Rehabilitation And Reconstruction Project

CREDIT AMOUNT: IDA - US$454 million equivalent

TERMS: Grace period = 10 years; Maturity = 40 years

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project will assist the DRC in improving agricultural production and enhancing food security, restoring critical infrastructure and essential social services, and strengthening the capacity of government to formulate and implement its development programs.  Resources will be used to rehabilitate and reconstruct economically vital roads and other transport infrastructure (including rural feeder roads), rebuild electricity, water and drainage systems, and support health care, education, social protection and small-scale community service projects.  The US$44 million IDA grant will be allocated to the health sector and support the government’s efforts to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, and other communicable diseases, and provide health care services targeted to specific groups, notably mothers, children, orphans and victims of war.
