WASHINGTON, September 1, 2005- The following project was approved today by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors:
IDA GRANT AMOUNT: $150 million
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project’s objective is to significantly improve the availability and utilization of quality essential health services for the population of targeted geographical areas, particularly women and children. This will be achieved by strengthening the existing public health system at all levels, with special attention paid to the district level and the health zone. Improving geographical access, reducing financial barriers to utilization, improving the quality and effectiveness of care, and strengthening the capacities of the front-line service delivery system, are priorities for the project.
