Democratic Republic of Congo: National Parks Network Rehabilitation Project

WASHINGTON, April 2, 2009 - The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors today approved the following project:

 

GEF Grant: US$7 million 

Project Description:  The project will help the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo to enhance the administrative, financial management and advocacy capacity of the public institution in charge of managing protected areas (Institut Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature). It will also help strengthen the capacity of this institution to evaluate and expand the national protected areas system, through the participation of local communities, indigenous groups and civil society organizations, as well as technical studies and consultations at the national level, and will help rehabilitate two priority national parks and their buffer zones.
