Financial Crisis Impacting Women and Girls

African women are more likely to suffer the consequences of the global economic downturn, according to the World Bank's Vice President for Africa.

The World Bank is helping to fight poverty and improve the living standards for the people of Eritrea.  The World Bank has disbursed a total of US$484 million in currently active and closed projects to Eritrea. As of August 2008, the portfolio consisted of five active projects for a commitment of approximately US$179 million which impact the following areas: 

  
  • transport
  • human development (education, and health), and
  • energy
