The World Bank's PIC/Library in Eritrea is open to the public and offers access to World Bank publications, reports and other development-related materials. Mission “The purpose of this Library is to make Bank information available to World Bank staff and the public, and to disseminate the Bank’s work to the widest possible audience.” The PIC is open to the World Bank staff, Government Agencies, Project Agencies, Business Community, Media, NGO’s civil society, Academics, Population affected and / or involved with Bank projects and the Donors community. No membership fee is required to use the Library. Users can easily access a wealth of information through the internet and over 7,000 World Bank publications, special books and documents that are part of its diverse collection. Services The Eritrea PIC offers the following services: - Guidance on all sources of information to all external audiences and to the Bank staff.
- Access to released documents in a manner the requester’s can understand.
- Online access to World Bank project documents, publications, and other development-related publications.
- Laser printing (a subsidized charge of ERN 1.5 per copy).
Visitor’s Policies The library offers lending services and one is required to fill a registration form and have it signed by a sponser. Publications may be borrowed for a maximum of seven working days. Borrowing facilities may be suspended at the discretion of the librarian in case of violation.A unique feature of the Library is its access to digital information on the internet. The Library provides a computer workstations for use by the public to access development information, databases and other information resources needed for research. There is no charge for using these services, but use is restricted to development related information, this excludes personal email, word-processing, spreadsheets, and other non-development research activities. Laser printing service is available at a subsidized charge of ERN 1.5 per copy. Popular Requests The following popular titles are available in the Library: - World Bank Annual Report: Annual publication that gives an overview of the World Bank activities in a given fiscal year. Contains information on major World Bank programs, evaluations, operations, administration, finances, etc
- World Development Report: This is an invaluable guide to the economic, social and environmental state of the world today. Each year the WDR provides in depth analysis of a specific aspect of development. Past reports have considered such topics as the role of the state, transition economies, labor, infrastructure, health, the environment, and poverty.
- World Development Indicators: This publication is also available in CD-ROM format and provides an expanded view of the world economy for almost 150 countries.
- African Development Indicators: An annual publication that provides the most detailed collection of data on Africa available in one volume. It contains more than 500 macroeconomic, sectoral, and social indicators covering 53 African countries.
- Project Information Documents: These are documents that give brief summaries of evolving projects. These are updated and expanded as the project preparation proceeds.
- Project Appraisal Documents: These contain descriptions of a project and the plan for its implementation, including procurement and disbursement procedures. These are available to the public after board approval.
- Economic Sector Reports: These include macroeconomic analysis of major economic sector and other reports on specified issues such as poverty assessment etc.
- Environmental Assessment: These are detailed studies required for projects likely to have significant impact on the environment. Studies are available before the final appraisal of the viability of the project.
- World Bank Guidelines for the Procurement of Works, Goods and Services: These provide guidelines for borrowers and their implementing agencies in the procurement of goods, works and services. Including standard bidding documents, the Library provides more than 7,000 World Bank Publications and other indigenous publications. Some copies of the World Bank publications are available for free.
