Ethiopia: Food, Fuel and the Financial Crisis

Developing nations are facing the sudden convergence of the food, fuel and financial crises. These crises, which originated in developed economies, have hit African countries hard. In Ethiopia, although food and fuel prices have eased from recent peaks, the country has suffered a significant shock and will remain at risk because of macroeconomic imbalances and slowing growth. Mr. Kenichi Ohashi, World Bank Country Director for Ethiopia and Sudan, recently spoke about the impact of the triple threat and what the World Bank has done in Ethiopia to address it.
