The World Bank provides financial and advisory support to African countries to help them improve the health and well-being of millions of poor people, boost economic growth, and reduce poverty caused by illness.

HNP projects in Africa finance activities to strengthen health systems to control diseases and help accelerate countries’ efforts in population, reproductive health, and nutrition while ensuring links across sectors. Among other things, the projects aim to improve effective coverage of poor people with high impact health interventions, strengthen health systems to deliver quality services and enhance coverage for the financial risk of illness. World Bank teams work closely with global health partners and countries to support the countries' own national health strategies to accelerate progress towards the MDGs.
