SSATP National Coordinators

SSATP member countries have established a SSATP coordination function consisting of a national coordinator and thematic coordination teams. At regional level, the function is run by the Regional Economic Communities Transport Coordination Committee consisting of representatives from the RECs, the corridor institutions and the private sector. The principal role of the SSATP coordination function is to initiate and promote the development and implementation of transport policies consistent with good practices/policies. Within this framework, the coordination function plays a significant role in:

• Promoting the development and implementation of coherent transport policies, strategies and programs with an overarching objective of poverty reduction and growth
• Acting as the principal SSATP knowledge dissemination instrument
• Networking and coordinating with government agencies and other stakeholders
• Participating in the promotion and facilitation of policy research and development and technology transfer
• Engaging with transport sector performance indicator development and monitoring process
• Engaging with donor coordination activities
• Participating in the mobilization of funds for the implementation of sector programs
• Promoting strategies that ensure provision of efficient regional or transit transport services and trade facilitation
• Mainstreaming of cross-cutting issues (gender, road safety, employment, environment...) in the transport sector
• Promoting instituional and finaning reforms in the transport sector
