| The African Road Safety Conference was held on February 5-7, 2007in Accra, Ghana. It was co-organised by the UN Economic Commissionfor Africa and the World Health Organization, with support from anumber of agencies, notably the Swedish International DevelopmentAgency (SIDA), the FIA Foundation for the Automobile and Society, theSub-Saharan African Transport Policy Program (SSATP), the World Bank,the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID),and the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP). More than 250 delegatesattended the conference. |  Mike Winnett, GRSP  | The objectives of the conference were as follows: - To review progress made by African countries in improving roadsafety;
- To plan for the implementation of the recommendations of theWorld report on road traffic injury prevention and the African RoadSafety Initiative;
- To continue preparations for the First UN Global Road Safety week;
- To advance the development of national action plans for road safetyfor countries in the region; and
- To identify ways of mobilizing resources to rapidly improve roadsafety.
The overall theme was road safety and the millennium development goals; reducing road traffic fatalities by half by 2015. The conference adopted the following documents (all in PDF format): Some presentations from the three days of sessions are available below:
