Private sector development is critical to facilitating economic growth and reducing poverty and inequality in Africa. The Africa Finance and Private Sector Development (AFTFP) Department is uniquely positioned to provide technical assistance and execute lending and operational projects across a broad range of themes, including:
- Investment Climate – reducing risks and costs of doing business by securing private property rights, improving governance, simplifying regulations and promoting competition.
- Industry Competitiveness – removing constraints in industries with high growth potential
- Financial Sector Development – strengthening regulatory and institutional frameworks to improve governance and increase competition, improving access to finance and financial literacy, developing payment systems, and enhancing creditor rights.
- Public Private Partnerships – facilitating privatization of public enterprises, establishing public-private partnerships to increase investment
