Capacity Enhancement through Knowledge Transfer: A Behavioral Framework for Reflection, Action and Results  - This paper proposes a framework for reflection and action by Bank staff to better broker and adapt knowledge to help countries and communities enhance their capacity to deliver results.

Blue arrowCommission on Intellectual Property Rights (CIPR)  - This is an initiative of the UK Government, financed by the Department for International Development (DFID). It is looking at how national and international intellectual property rules and practices might be improved to take greater account of the needs and interests of poor people and developing countries. The aim is for the Commission to report by March 2002.

Comparing and Supporting Endogenous Development and Bio-cultural Diversity (COMPAS) - a multipartner program supported by the Dutch Government and other donors to improve the quality of development support initiatives. The project provides support to local organizations, which are enhancing biological and cultural diversity and sustainable management of natural resources by building on Indigenous Knowledge Systems and local leadership.

FAO LinKS Project – Gender, Biodiversity and Local Knowledge Systems for Food Security - A project led by the FAO of the UN that seeks to explore, together with a range of organizations on four Southern African countries – Mozambique, Swaziland, Tanzania and Zimbabwe – the linkages between gender, biodiversity and local knowledge systems. The website aims at providing a place for institutional individuals, especially in the Southern African region, to learn about each other’s work.

ILEIA (Centre for Information on Low-External-Input and Sustainable Agriculture) has compiled a step-by-step manual entitled "Learning from experience: a manual for organizing, analyzing and documenting field-based information" by Jorge Chavez-Tafur, Karen Hampson and Rik Thijssen (Feb 2006). It is the result of a Documentation Pilot Project run by ETC Andes and ILEIA. The 42-page manual (250 KB) is downloadable from the ILEIA website at http://documentation.leisa.info/methodology/intro.htm

Insight's Participatory Video - this organization uses Participatory Video (PV) to enable rural people to document their own knowledge and experiences and to express their wants and hopes from their own perspectives. The methods value local knowledge, build bridges between communities and decision-makers and enable people to develop greater control over their own development and the decisions affecting their lives.

International Development Research Center (IDRC) - carried out numerous studies in the field of IK, in particular it is engaged in various partnerships with various national and international NGOs such as IUCN, WRI and other donors to further the subject.

Blue arrowInternational Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) of the Philippines which maintains the IK-Pages. IIRR is a rural development organization with over 80 years of experience in rural development in Asia, Africa and Latin America. The IK-Pages provide background information and news about indigenous knowledge worldwide.

Trying to track down an article on population and the environment? The answers to these questions and much more are now just a few mouse clicks away on the new Internet POPLINE database. POPLINE, the world's largest bibliographic database on population, family planning, and related issues, is now available free of charge on the Internet. All 280,000 citations, representing published and unpublished literature, can be accessed for no charge.

Management of Social Transformations (UNESCO- MOST) - a partner of the IK initiative is setting up a database on best practices that will include indigenous knowledge practices.

PANOS - specialises in information for development, and has an indigenous language programme, with grants to organizations that engage in adapting and translating AIDS information for media in their countries.

Partnership for Information and Communication Technology for Africa  (PICTA) , one of the initiators of the initiative, from there other important institutions and initiatives – not only related to information technology, can be accessed.

Prolinnova: PROmoting Local INNOVAtion in ecologically oriented agriculture and natural resource management. Prolinnova is an NGO-initiated program to build a global learning and advocacy network on promoting local innovation in ecologically-oriented agriculture and NRM.

Science and Development Network (SciDev), Indigenous Knowledge dossier. The dossier is intended to contribute to the exchange of information on IK by providing relevant annotated links to external websites, offering access to discussion groups and to electronic versions of key reports and documents within the field of IK.

The Centre for International Research and Advisory Networks at Nuffic CIRAN
CIRAN was a hub of the global network of indigenous knowledge centers until 2004. It published the IK-Monitor since 2001, was a partner of the IK initiative and a special supporter of African IK centers. It has now transferred its activities to a consortium of southern organizations. Management and maintenance of the web site are now in the hands of the
International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) of the Philippines.

Blue arrowThe Participatory Management Clearinghouse (formerly called the Participatory Management Networking Service (PMNS) - a joint service of IUCN, the Bureau of the Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar) and WWF. The PMNS will integrate information on participatory management of natural resources, including Community-based management, Collaborative management and Indigenous Peoples management.   
Blue arrowThrough the Bagel Hole - a not-for-profit project to collect and share low-tech, sustainable
knowledge. It is still in the beginning stages, but has about 300 articles so far. It allows
individuals and communities to contribute knowledge as well as access knowledge.
