Distance Learning Events

The IK Program has launched a series of distance learning events to enable IK practitioners to share experiences and good practices across regions and continents. Events to date have enabled grass roots innovators to influence policy makers in East Africa and South Asia and access UN agencies in New York and Geneva to help address their concerns. Follow-up learning events have been conducted to provide opportunities for Bank staff and country project leaders to learn together to integrate local knowledge into National AIDS Programs.

Knowledge and Learning Exchanges

knowledge learning tour photoThe IK Program organized two knowledge and learning exchange tours which brought together World Bank staff, project leaders, policy makers and clients. The purpose of the events was to develop cross regional partnerships between South Asia and East Africa to integrate indigenous knowledge & practices into East African Projects through knowledge sharing and learning exchanges. The learning exchange enabled the African visitors to adapt their programs and integrate the learning into their ongoing programs in their respective countries.

Seminars

seminarThe IK Program has organized seminars in DC and country offices to help raise awareness among Bank staff and the public on the potential contribution of indigenous knowledge in helping countries achieve the MDGs. The IK Program has also sponsored local researchers and NGOs working on traditional health and farming practices to present their work to the development community. These events have helped to raise the profile of IK in countries such as Tanzania and among development practitioners working on health, Community Driven Development and rural development projects in Africa.

IK Toolkits

seminarThese learning tools include: documents, videos, interviews and web-links that provide information to assist development practitioners to achieve the MDGs. Each toolkit presents successful approaches to achieving one of the MDGs based on practical country experiences. The objective is to provide users a learning platform with ‘just in time’ access to lessons of experience on ‘what works’ and ‘how to do it’. The focus is on identifying the key success factors and providing users with practical guidelines on how to replicate and scale up successful practices.
