  • The Africa Economic Research Consortium(AERC):  The AERC is a public not-for-profit organization devoted to advanced policy research and training. The principal objective of the consortium is to strengthen local capacity for conducting independent, rigorous inquiry into problems pertinent to the management of economies in Sub-Saharan Africa. Read more...

  • Multi-Country Demobilization and Reintegration Program (MDRP): MDRP is a partnership of the World Bank, regional governments, donors, the United Nations and its agencies, regional organizations and other international financial institutions. The program is  aimed at supporting the demobilization and reintegration of ex-combatants and improving stability and socio-economic development in the greater Great Lakes region of Africa.  Read more...

  • Nile Basin Initiative: The Nile Basin Initiative, launched in February 1999, is a regional partnership of Nile basin countries united for the long-term development and management of Nile waters.  The World Bank has supported and facilitated the development of the NBI, and is coordinating international support for NBI-related projects. Read more...

  • Partnership for Capacity Building in Africa (PACT): PACT recognizes the centrality of “capacity” in the development process in Africa.  African countries themselves must create a conducive policy and operational environment for capacity building—by laying out practical phasing of capacity building actions, and by building partnerships within countries (among government, civil society, and the private sector), and with national, multi-national and bilateral donors, international business and trade interests, foundations, and non-governmental organizations. Implementation of PACT is led by the Harare-based African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), which was established in 1991 as a collaborative effort between the World Bank, the African Development Bank, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).  Read more...

  • Sub-Saharan Africa Transport Policy Program (SSATP): This international partnership facilitates transport sector policy development and related capacity-building.
