image The World Bank Group has a major role to play in facilitating the international response to the call for expanded and more effective assistance to Africa. The Bank cannot do it alone. It has to work together with other development partners in achieving its mission of helping every African country reach as many of the MDGs as possible by 2015. Strengthening partnerships is one of the pillars of the Africa Action Plan (AAP) and underpins coordination and harmonization of assistance in supporting a country-led program enhances the effectiveness.

The Africa Region Partnerships Group (AFRPG)’s role and specific responsibilities include:

Supportingcountry and sectoral teams in three ways.

  1. Monitoring successes achieved by our partnerships and identifying remaining obstacles.
  2.  Providing country teams with up-to-date information on what is happening at the international level and at the strategic partnership level, as well as best practices and the results of other studies and initiatives on partnerships.
  3. Working with senior management to make resource and policy decisions which strengthen partnership activities at the country level

Managing regional partnerships

  1. Developing, with partners, action plans which are specific and monitorable and helping resolve obstacles to stronger cooperation at the headquarters level.
  2. Planning and organizing senior-level meetings between AFR and other partners.
  3. Providing briefing materials for senior-level meetings and for participation in international meetings which deal with the general issues of aid effectiveness and harmonization.

Strengthening the SPA as a forum for implementation of the aid effectiveness agenda.

Representing AFR’s interests in global partnerships.
