
The Public Information Center (PIC) in Ghana is open to the public and provides access to current statistics, literature and reports on development work in Ghana and beyond. The materials in the collection are published by the World Bank Group, Ghanaian governmental agencies and Institutions, academia, other Development partners and Civil Society groups. The PIC is open to everybody -- government officials, private sector firms, non-governmental organizations, development partners, students, journalists, members of the academia etc. PIC users can easily access a wealth of information through the internet and over 3,000 World Bank publications and special books and documents that are part of its diverse collection. Services Services at the PIC are: - Online access to World Bank project documents, publications, and other development related-publications.
- Access to special collection on CDs and Videotapes.
- Free internet access to development sites and databases, and other information resources for research purposes.
- Providing guidance on all sources of information to all external audiences and to all Bank staff.
- Forging partnerships with other institutions to provide access to information on overall development activities in Ghana.
Available Reports and Documents The reports and documents available at the PIC include: - Project Information Documents (PIDs). These are documents that give brief summaries of evolving projects. These are updated and expanded as the project preparation proceeds.
- Project Appraisal Documents (PADs) . These contain descriptions of a project and the plan for its implementation, including procurement procedures. These are made available to the public after presentation to the Board.
- Status of Projects in Execution (SOPE) . The status of projects in execution provides information on all IBRD/IDA projects. The SOPE is issued every year and is intended to bridge the gap in information available to the Public between the Project Appraisal Document disclosed after the bank approves a project, and the Implementation Completion Report, disclosed after the project closes.
- Economic Sector Reports . These include macroeconomic analysis of Ghana's economy, analysis of major economic sectors and other reports on specified issues, such as poverty reduction strategies, etc. Environmental Assessments (EAs). EAs are detailed studies required for projects likely to have significant impact on the environment. Such studies are available before the final appraisal of the viability of the project.
- Loan (or Development Credit) Agreements . These are records of loan amounts and terms and conditions on which the loan is made. It also records the borrower's general commitment to the project objectives. It is made available to the public after the loan agreement is signed and declared effective or ready for disbursement.
- Bidding and consultant documents . These provide guidelines for borrowers and their implementing agencies in the procurement of goods, works and consulting services.
