Conakry, September 5, 2008 – Ms.Obiageli Katryn Ezekwesili, World Bank Vice President for the Africa Region, will pay a working visit to Guinea from September 7–9, 2008.
Guinea will be the third African country visited by Ms. Ezekwesili during her West African tour, after Ghana, where she participated in the High-Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness held in Accra from September 2–4, 2008, and Côte d’Ivoire. After her sojourn on Guinean soil, Ms. Ezekwesili will continue her tour with visits to Togo and Benin.
This visit forms part of the consultations with Guinean authorities, private sector economic actors, trade union groups, and development partners. In her discussions with the Government, she will address the most salient aspects of collaboration between the World Bank and Guinea, for the present and the future, such as the sound management of the mining sector’s revenues, the food crisis, and agricultural development.
Prior to her appointment as World Bank Vice President on May 1, 2007, Ms. Ezekwesili held the positions of Minister of Solid Minerals Development, and Minister of Education, in the Government of Nigeria.
Equipped with a unique blend of hands-on experience, especially in the more challenging and complex areas of energy sector reform and education, Ms. Ezekwesili is well placed to deal with the many issues and challenges in Africa. Her passion and commitment to Africa, as well as her optimism and determination to work for the development of the continent, are all strengths that she brings o the Region.
While in Guinea, Ms. Ezekwesili will conduct site to gain insight into Bank-supported operations.
She will conclude her visit with meetings with the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic of Guinea.
