Public Information Center

The World Bank is a leader in social and economic development research, data collection, and knowledge dissemination and provides access to a wealth of information through its print and online resources.

As part of the World Bank's policy to be open about its activities and to explain its work to the widest possible audience, the Public Information Centers (PICs) were established worldwide in 1993 to disseminate information on the Bank and its operations.

The Public Information Center is an open access reference library that serves as a one-stop shop for persons seeking World Bank documents and information on the Bank's operations.

Who can Access the PIC

Access to the PIC is free. It is open to all members of the public.

Monday – Thursday: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Closed on Friday, weekends and public holidays

Resources found in the PIC

a. Project and Operational Documents. The core collection of the PIC includes operational documents on Kenya such as Economic and Sector Works, Project Identification Documents, Project Appraisal Documents, Country Assistance Strategy, Environmental Assessments, Loan and Credit Agreement etc. These reports are freely available for downloaded from: http://www-wds.worldbank.org/
  
b. Data and Statistics Publications. Leading international development publications including World Development Indicators, Africa Development Indicators, World Development Report, World Bank Atlas, Global Economic Prospects are available at the PIC. Data Query database, which offers a five-year, 54-indicators segment of the World Development Indicators is freely accessible here: http://www.worldbank.org/data/dataquery.html
  
c. Books. Current World Bank published documents on a range of development topics.
  
d. Audio-Visual Materials. Several resources are available in CD-ROM, Video-cassette and DVD formats.
   
e. Kenyan Government Publications. Statistical Abstracts, Budget Estimates, Economic Survey, Expenditure Reviews, Population Census Reports, some Bills and Acts, Development plans, Central Bank reports and other miscellaneous government publications.
  
f. Development Agencies reports. General development related reports from other development agencies and partners.
  
g. Eritrea and Somalia. Selected documents on Somalia and Eritrea

Services for Persons with Disabilities

Assistive Technologies that allow visually impaired persons to operate the computer independently.

  • Specially designed screen reader software, which converts a PC into a “talking computer”
  • Screen magnifier for persons with low vision
  • Braille translation software for converting normal text into Braille
  • Braille Embosser
  • Braille display device that allows a blind person to read the contents of a screen.
  • Focus 44 Braille Display for use by the deaf-blind

Physical facilities

Some conscious effort has been made to ensure comfort for persons with disabilities including access through the main entrance where ramps exist, shelves that are low enough for use by everyone and ample room for movement for persons who may be on wheelchairs.
