The World Bank, the Ministry of Education and Culture, and UN agencies, especially the UNRC, UNICEF and UNDP formally launched the Mozambique multi-agency Development Information Center, also known as CID, on May 16, 2007. The center is the first one-stop-shop on development information of its kind to be established in the country, with the overall objective of facilitating access to development-related information for the public.
The launch included speeches from The World Bank, the Ministry of Education and the UN Resident Coordinator. A number of journalists and opinion leaders, universities and other knowledge institutions attended.
Among the center’s target public are civil society organizations, media, parliamentarians, private sector, students and academics. In addition to an impressive number of publications, the Center has computers and internet access and a large meeting room, making it a potential venue for dialogue and training on issues related to development.
A number of additional UN agencies are now in the process of formally becoming partners of the Development Information Center. These include, UNFPA and FAO. Some bilateral development agencies have also showed interest in joining the initiative.
The center is housed on the first floor of the National Public Library, which is on Avenida 25 de Setembro.
