The Mozambique Development Marketplace was launched with success in Maputo on May 11, 2007 under the name "Feira da Inovação 2007." The theme of the competition is "ICT for rural development" and it is targeted at individuals with knowledge of ICT, students, NGOs and the private sector.
The Development Marketplace (DM) is being organized in conjunction with the International Finance Corporation, the Government of Mozambique, through the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Millennium Bim , Mcel and Vodacom.Â
The launch included speeches by the World Bank and ministries, as well as a presentation by a winner of the Global Development Marketplace (held in Washington DC), Erik Charas on behalf of the Fundação para o Desenvolvimento da Comunidade (FDC).
A Memorandum of Understanding between the co-organizers was signed during the event in the presence of representatives of the Government, academia, NGOs, private sector and the media.
