Overview

Niger joined the World Bank in 1963. Since then, World Bank assistance on 59 projects has helped the country work towards achieving improved governance, economic growth and a reduction in poverty. As of March 2007, the commitment value of nine ongoing IDA-financed operations is about US$285.32 million equivalent and include:

  Basic Education Project a US$30 million project which aims to increase enrollment and completion in basic education programs and strengthen management at all levels by improving the use of existing resources, focusing on rural areas to achieve greater equity and poverty reduction in the medium to long term.  Read more... 
       
  Multi-Sector STI/HIV/AIDS Support Project:  a US$25 million multi-country project in Africa with the objective to strengthen preventive measures so as to slow the spread of HIV/AIDS, and expand support, and care for those infected, or affected by the epidemic.  Read more...
