Overview

São Tomé and Príncipe joined the World Bank in 1977. Since then, World Bank assistance on 14 projects has helped the country work towards achieving economic growth and a reduction in poverty.  As of March 2007, two active projects with a commitment value of approximately US$11.5 million include:

STP Capacity Building and TA Project: a US$5 million project which aims to help modernize, and strengthen the capacity in economic (financial and budgetary) management, and supervision, and, build up basic institutional and legal infrastructure in the finance, and in the natural resources and environment ministries.  Read more...
         
       

 

Social Sector Support Project: a US$6.5 million project with the objective of improving the delivery of basic health and education services, which implies a focus on greater and more equitable access, better quality, and improved local governance.  Read more...
