Senegal is located on the West Coast of Africa and is part of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU). With a population estimated at about 12.5 million, Senegal’s economy is dominated by a few strategic sectors, including groundnuts, fisheries and services. The World Bank’s assistance to Senegal focuses on three points: Accelerated growth and wealth creation; human development and shared growth; and rural and urban synergies.
