Financial Crisis Impacting Women and Girls

Financial Crisis Impacting Women and Girls

African women are more likely to suffer the consequences of the global economic downturn, according to the World Bank's Vice President for Africa.

As of October 2009, the World Bank had approved two IBRD loans for  Seychelles for a total amount of approximately US$10.7 million. These two projects have closed and there were no active World Bank projects, other than for two active grants for infrastructure rehabilitation following the December 2004 tsunami, and for environmental protection and disaster management capacity building.

Prior IBRD-financed projects in Seychelles have been in the following areas:

  • Agriculture, fishing, and forestry
  • Health and other social services
  • Industry and trade
  • Law and justice and public administration
  • Transportation
  • Water, sanitation and flood protection
