Overview

Since Sierra Leone became a member of the World Bank Board of Directors in 1962, the Bank’s assistance on 64 approved projects and other forms of support have helped to promote economic growth and alleviate poverty in the country. As of January 2010, the World Bank is supporting 9 active projects costing approximately $US 160.5 million. Sierra Leone has benefitted from US$117 million from the World Bank Group’s IDA resources with an allocation rate of about US$27 million per year during the last Country Assistance Strategy (CAS) period (2005-2009). About one third of this allocation has been utilized in the form of direct budget support to the government under a joint multi-donor budget framework with DFID, EC and AfDB.
