The Sudan Consortium, established with the Comprehensive Peace Agreement of 2005, held its second set of meetings March 20-21, gathering in Khartoum, the national capital of Sudan and Juba, the capital of Southern Sudan.

The Sudan Consortium, charged with monitoring progress in implementing the historic peace accord, brings together the Sudan Government of National Unity (GNU) and the Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS) with an array of international institutions and bilateral partners .

At the March Consortium, the Sudanese delegation was led by H.E. Zubeir Ahmed El Hassan, Minister of Finance and National Economy, Government of Sudan and H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny, Vice President, Government of Southern Sudan and included 20 ministers and state ministers from the Government of National Unity (GoNU) and the Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS). About 38 international delegations from the international community and civil society participated, with the total number of participants exceeding 300.

The meetings emphasized the need for strengthened capacity at all levels of government, with an emphasis on greater transparency in the management of public resources. Overall, delegates stressed that comprehensive peace in Sudan is only possible with a clear resolution of the Darfur crisis.
