Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers

The Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSP) describe a country's macroeconomic, structural and social policies and programs to promote growth and reduce poverty, as well as associated external financing needs. PRSPs are prepared by governments through a participatory process involving civil society and development partners, including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) (for more information visit the World Bank PovertyNet).

The Government of Tanzania updated its first Poverty Reduction Strategy of October 2000 in three Progress Reports. A subsequent PRSP, the "National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty" (NSGRP), also known as MKUKUTA according to its Swahili acronym, became available in April 2005.

The MKUKUTA II, covering the period FY10/11-FY14/15, was published in July 2010, and is available for download from the Government of Tanzania's Poverty Monitoring Website.
