launch photoThe World Bank and other development partners in Tanzania have established a one-stop information center, Tanzania Development Information Centre [TDIC] www.tdic.or.tz, to collect, organize, and disseminate development information to the public.

The TDIC has been established to share knowledge that will improve the effectiveness of development programs in Tanzania. Using the Centre’s resources, the public, including academicians, researchers and policy makers, can access a wide range of information on development and related issues.

Who can use the Tanzania Development Information Centre (TDIC)?

The Centre’s resources are free to the public. Users can access information through the Internet and through thousands of World Bank publications and other development-related materials.

Services

The Tanzania Development Information Centre's services include:

  • Online access to World Bank project documents, publications, and other development-related publications
  • Access to a special collection of CDs and videotapes dealing with development
  • An open access reference Centre/Library stocked with development publications on Tanzania
  • Links to public access databases and development related websites
  • Access to the publications of development partners
  • Access to publications for local agencies
  • Development dialogues with various agencies through a modern multi-media room
  • Free publication as part of a public information services
  • Exhibition display space.

Resources

  • Project Information Documents (PIDs) present brief summaries of evolving projects. They are updated and expanded as the project preparation proceeds.
  • Project Appraisal Documents (PADs) contain descriptions of a project and the plan for its implementation, including procurement procedures. These are made available to the public after presentation to the Board.
  • Economic Sector Reports, which include macroeconomic analysis of the country's economy, analyses of major economic sectors and other reports on specified issues, such as poverty assessment.
  • Environmental Assessments (EAs) are detailed studies required for projects likely to have significant impact on the environment. These studies are available before the final appraisal of the viability of the project.
  • Loan (or Development Credit) Agreements are the records of loan amounts and terms and conditions on which the loan is made. They also record the borrower's general commitment to the project objectives. They are made available to the public after the loan agreement is signed and declared effective or ready for disbursement.
  • Bidding and consultant documents provide guidelines for borrowers and their implementing agencies in the procurement of goods, works and consulting services.
