Poverty Reduction Strategy Credits

The Poverty Reduction Support Credit (PRSC) is based on the World Bank's Country Assistance Strategy (CAS) for Uganda and supports the implementation of Uganda's development strategy as outlined in the country's Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP)/Poverty Eradication Action Plan (PEAP). So far, Uganda received three PRSCs in a planned series of four World Bank credits to Uganda.

The First PRSC (each credit in the amount of US$150 million) was approved by the World Bank Board of Directors in 2001, and focused on measures to improve public service delivery and address cross-cutting public sector issues. The second PRSC was presented to the Board in July 2002, and expanded on the scope of PRSC 1, by introducing measures aimed at strengthening rural development. PRSC 3 was approved in September 2003 and concentrates on increased service delivery and rural development. PRSC 4 has been approved in September 2004 .
