The Republic of Zambia joined the World Bank in 1965. Since then, World Bank assistance on 250 projects has helped the country promote economic growth and reduce poverty. As of June 30, 2009 the World Bank had invested around US$ 4.6 billion in Zambia to support development projects ranging from mining to infrastructure to health. As of now, the current status of the Zambia portfolio has a total net commitment of $305 million. Infrastructure (48%) is the largest sector of the portfolio while Human Development is the smallest (6%). The remaining portfolio comprises initiatives aimed at improving the investment climate, environment and supporting public administration reform.
