This third Asia Pacific Finance Conference will be organized under the aegis of the Asia-Pacific Committee (APA) of BDI, the largest business association in Germany, in cooperation with the World Bank Group.
Dr Heinrich v. Pierer, former Siemens CEO and leader of the German Asia Initiative (APA) will chair the Conference whose objective is to create a forum of exchange between European CEOs, representatives of Asian governments, the European commission, the Federal Government as well as international financing institutions. The purpose is to generate some dialogue around German and European investment options in infrastructure, private sector development and financing in Asia. It will be attended by German and international companies and banks and take place with support of the Union of the Bavarian Economy (VBW). The Conference will also serve as a European Asia curtain raiser to the Annual Meetings in Singapore in September 2006.
The program will include discussions on strategic questions including: "Financing infrastructure in the Asia Region", "Market access for financial Services", "Research and Development: Options for public private partnership". The conference is organized on the eve of the Munich Conference on Security Policy which will take place on February 3-5, 2006 starting with a dinner on February 3 where participants in both conference will meet and discuss links between economics, stability and security issues.
The World Bank Group is highly represented and substantially involved in the Conference program with the EAP Chief Economist for the World Bank's East Asia Pacific Region, Homi Kharas presenting overview of region developments and trends as well as the bank's strategy in East Asia, including directions for infrastructure development.
