The World Bank / GRIPS Development Forum Public Seminar
The World Bank/IMF Development Committee is a global, high-level meeting of financial and development ministers from 24 developed and developing countries including the G7. It is held semiannually in the spring and fall to discuss critical, timely issues about assistance to developing countries and to provide recommendations to the Governors of the World Bank and the IMF.
This spring, the Development Committee was held in Washington D.C. on April 13, where discussions focused on reviewing the progress that is being made to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) at the halfway point. Discussions were also held on rising energy and food prices, climate change, and new business developments within the Bank Group. A Communiqué was issued after the meeting.
Mr. Kiyoshi Kodera, the Executive Secretary of the Development Committee, is responsible for setting the agenda for the Development Committee and coordinating views of the World Bank President, IMF Managing Director, and ministers. During his upcoming visit to Japan, the World Bank and the GRIPS Development Forum will co-host a public seminar to explain the achievements of this spring’s Development Committee and the changing climate for development assistance. With the rapid approach of TICAD IV and the G8 Summit, enhanced cooperation between the Bank and Japan will also be explored.
