 | Around 1,100 youths participated in the Youth Education Peer Program in HIV/AIDS in Beijing. | In recent years, the World Bank has emphasized the role of youth in fighting poverty and encouraged and supported youth engagement in the development agenda. In 2004, the World Bank launched a pilot program on youth engagement, and China was selected to be one of the pilot countries. The World Bank China Office and the All-China Youth Federation (ACYF*) set up a Youth Consultative Group in 2004. Focusing on the priority areas of the Bank’s youth strategy and tailoring to the characteristics and development needs of Chinese youth, the two sides implemented a series of youth programs. The cooperation between the World Bank and ACYF embodies the principle of ‘for the youth, by the youth’ in development issues, and creates opportunities for common development. Pilot Projects
