First World Bank-Supported Carbon Finance Project in Thailand

Bangkok - Dr. Sakchai Sriboonsue, (sitting, center of photo), the Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development, and Khun Anat Prapasawad, (sitting, far right), the Managing Director of Advance Energy Plus Co. Ltd. (AEP), signed a memorandum of understanding for the purchase of 60,000 tons of carbon credit from 11 animal farms, represented by AEP, in Chon Buri, Chachaongsao and Ratchaburi  provinces. This was the first carbon finance project in Thailand to be supported by the World Bank. Over the next 10 years, this project will help owners of the 11 farms generate an annual income of $600,000 altogether from carbon credit. World Bank's carbon finance specialists, including Dr. Nat Pinnoi, (standing, far left), also attended the MOU signing ceremony, held at the Department of Livestock Development on Dec. 14, 2007.
