Ministerial Conference on Environment and Development

The Fifth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Development in Asia and the Pacific, 2005 (MCED 2005) was hosted by the Government of the Republic of Korea, from 24 to 29 March 2005 in Seoul. MCED 2005 brought together ministers of environment and development and a range of multilateral partners from across the Asia and the Pacific region to discuss the state of the environment and formulate joint action plans.

MCED 2005 was designed to move forward the sustainable development agenda established at MCED 2000 and the WSSD taking into consideration emerging issues and realities particularly in the process of globalization. In terms of emerging challenges, it is proposed that "Achieving Environmentally Sustainable Economic Growth" be the main theme of the Conference.

The World Bank participated in this event and indicated its strong support to the ambitions of the conference. Magda Lovei made a statement to outline the synergies that exist between the MCED 2005 vision and the Bank’s strategy and work plan.
