"The Netherlands-Mongolia Trust Fund for Environmental Reform: A New Approach to Environmental Partnerships for IDA Countries"
The presentation begins with the origin of the NEMO partnership with the Netherlands and elaborates on how the NEMO trust fund (i) helped establish sound baselines of knowledge for environment and natural resource management that can now be used as benchmarks for measuring progress (or regress); (ii) helped establish cross-sectoral linkages with the ongoing urban, energy and rural development agendas; (iii) raised the visibility of environmental affairs, particularly at the national level thanks to the large coverage of the program; (iv) broadened the pool of environmental practitioners accessing resources to fund small and medium-size activities at the local level with the participation of local communities; and (v) supported the efforts of the Ministry of Nature and Environment to prioritize responses among the many environment and NRM problems that the country faces, with particular attention to how their responses can be supported by the government’s development policies, and specific donors’ programs.  View Presentation (.ppt, 2.6MB)

"An Innovative Approach to Toxic and Hazardous Substances: the Mongolian Experience"
Chemical usage has been increasing exponentially since Mongolia began its transition to a market-based economic system at the beginning of 1990s. Many chemicals are being imported informally or without any control. Over the past year, the Government of Mongolia with the support of concerned civil society groups has developed an innovative program to turn these events around.
Key items of interest in the Mongolian Toxic and Hazardous Substances Program include the high level policy dialogue between the Mongolian Parliament and 23 ministries and agencies supporting technical assistance on legislative and budget issues, and the first country-wide public awareness campaign on the impacts of use of toxic and hazardous substances. The program was funded by the Netherlands - Mongolia Trust Fund for the Environment, and enacted by World Wildlife Fund Mongolia with the support of international experts. View Presentation (.ppt, 0.6MB)
