Implementing Labour Standards in Construction: A Sourcebook  (483 kb pdf)

This reference, prepared by the Water, Engineering and Development Centre of Loughborough University, emphasizes a need to focus on labor standards in construction works, particularly in developing countries. Guidance provided in the Sourcebook has been utilized on World Bank-funded transport projects in China in order to implement and monitor labour standards.

 

Using Involuntary Resettlement on Highway Projects to Alleviate Poverty: A Case Study from the Hubei Shiman Highway Project in China (155kb pdf);

In this note, a successful resettlement program associated with the Shiyan-Manchuanguan Expressway Project in China highlights how focusing on improved housing standards, access, and sustainable land development can be used to enhance overall living conditions for those affected by a project.
