Begins:   Nov 20, 2007
Ends:   Nov 20, 2007

On Nov. 20, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC),
the World Bank, and the Ministry of Finance signed the agreement for the US$859,200 grant
from the Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF) at the World Bank Office in Bangkok. Picture

Office, Robert Klein (right), Regional Program Director of the IFRC, and Ian Porter (second from

This grant will enable the IFRC and the World Bank to work together to reduce fatalities caused by road accidents among young people in Thailand. It will support the Youth Helmet Use Program – a pilot project designed to improve youth awareness of road safety and increase helmet use. The program will concentrate on youth in the Northeast, the country’s poorest region. If successful, the pilot project may be replicated elsewhere in Thailand, said Mr. Klein. The good practices and the lessons from this project will also be shared with Thailand’s neighbors, Lao PDR and Cambodia, he added.
