 Welcome to the World Bank's East Asia and Pacific region homepage. Our mission is to help our client countries fight poverty and improve economic growth. We support the efforts of governments in our region to build schools and health centers, provide water and electricity, fight disease and corruption, and protect the environment.
In fiscal year 2006, we provided US$3.4 billion in loans and grants to client governments in the region for development projects designed to meet our regional objectives: to increase economic growth, reduce poverty, enhance social stability, increase intraregional integration, reduce corruption, and improve governance. Our decentralized structure allows us to work closely with our clients and to adapt our knowledge and experience to the local context.
