Indonesia has made a strong economic recovery from the 1997 financial crisis and its transition to democratic governance and decentralization continues with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono making important reforms on several fronts. Indonesia has graduated from the IMF program, terminated the CGI, and is projected to increase its growth rate to 6 percent in 2007. Both development spending and poverty have returned to pre-crisis levels, indeed the country has an additional US$15 billion to spend on development this year as a result of reducing fuel price subsidies and prudent fiscal management.
