Fighting Poverty in Indonesia

The World Bank is one of the world's largest sources of development assistance and has maintained an active presence in Indonesia since 1967.

During the span of 30 years, Indonesia had managed to significantly reduce poverty. The unprecedented economic crisis briefly disrupted that positive track record, but Indonesia is currently bouncing back to push economic growth and bring down its poverty numbers since the peak of the crisis.

Lasting poverty reduction requires the cooperation of numerous parties, including civil society, government, and donor agencies. Working with these partners in development, the World Bank provides financial resources and technical expertise to support programs aimed at fighting poverty. These programs address issues in human, rural, and urban development, such as health, education, agriculture, and basic infrastructure. The World Bank supports these programs through various studies, technical assistance, and program financing.

These support are articulated in the Country Assistance Strategy (CAS) which governs the World Bank's program in a particular country, including Indonesia. The CAS acts as a roadmap for the World Bank Group's program which outlines the forms of assistance, both lending and non-lending, provided to its member countries.
