Background Information

The World Bank Office Jakarta has built up information network with 16 State University Libraries in all parts of Indonesia and 3 branch offices/development partner institutions. They’re called RIO (Regional Information Outlet). The RIO are scattered from Aceh to Papua. Gadjah Mada University (UGM) is one of the 16 RIOs which was set up in 2005. It was begun with a small corner on the second floor of the UGM Central Library with only a small book shelf. Since then some activities have been done in this center.

In recognition of UGM’s outstanding work in establishing its library as a center for development dialogue, the World Bank has contributed a range of new hi-tech facilities and resources that effectively upgrades the existing cooperation. Yogyakarta is now home to the only other Indonesia Development Information Services center outside the one found in the World Bank’s Jakarta office. From its humble beginnings of just one book shelf, IDIS UGM now boasts several new computer terminals, a flat-screen television and DVD player, a LCD projector, a free online database and a free e-library of World Bank publications. IDIS UGM is now also a registered World Bank Depository Library, and will receive new knowledge products from World Bank Headquarters on a regular basis.

IDIS UGM Services:

  • World Bank Publications in Development Topics
  • Indonesia and Regional Studies
  • Economic & Social Development Literatures
  • Reconstruction Information
  • Country Programs & Projects
  • Current Affairs & Events
  • CD-Roms in Development issues
  • Online Research
  • And more

The UGM-IDIS will be one of the 188 Information Satellite Network owned by the World Bank within 95 World Bank countries’ Public Information Center.

With a new name and more facilities, IDIS UGM aims to reach more users and expand its services. Under this new cooperation, the World Bank and UGM will intensify efforts to organize and facilitate seminars and knowledge-sharing sessions with various stakeholders in Yogyakarta, including from local government and civil society.
