EAST ASIA AND PACIFIC: World Bank Group Scales Up Engagement in East Asia Pacific
The World Bank Group committed loans, grants and credits worth US$4.5 billion to support development across the East Asia Pacific region during fiscal year 2008. This was US$200 million more than the previous fiscal year, reflecting the increased support for a region that is weathering the global economic downturn relatively well. Read more
   
CAMBODIA: Second Social Accountability School in Cambodia Calls for Applicants
The Second Social Accountability School (SAS2) in Cambodia will be conducted on November 17-28, 2008. The eleven-day course builds on SAS1 and will focus on Democratic Decentralization and Good Governance. Read more
   
CHINA: Wal-Mart joins the China Development Marketplace, to support CSO efforts to promote sustainable development
Wal-Mart Stores Inc., one of the world's largest retail companies with more than 7,000 stores worldwide, has joined the World Bank in supporting innovative projects initiated by civil society organizations (CSOs) in China through a Wal-Mart Sustainability Award created in the China Development Marketplace. PACIFIC ISLANDS: Young People for Change
A Facebook group called "Young People for Change" has been established for the youth in the Pacific, Timor-Leste and Papua New Guinea to air their thoughts and ideas on how they could help spur change. Visit Young People for Change
   
PHILIPPINES: WB Extends Support to Cities for Improved Governance and Urban Services Delivery
