Bureaucracy reform has been a critical priority of the Indonesian Government since 2006, when reforms started in Ministry of Finance, followed by the Supreme Audit Board and the Supreme Court. In 2008, the Bureaucracy reform initiative was elevated from the agency level to the national level. From 2010, a Steering Committee chaired by the Vice President, and a National Bureaucracy reform Management Team chaired by the Minister of Administrative and Bureaucracy reform lead and monitor reform implementation while the National Bureaucracy reform Management Unit is in charge of the implementation guidance. At this moment, some 14 central Ministries and Agencies are implementing reforms, another 20 are likely to start implementation this year and by 2014 all 74 central institutions should have implemented the reforms.
The purpose of this Roundtable was to enable Ministries and Agencies recently starting to implement Bureaucracy reform to learn from and pose questions to the National Bureaucracy reform Management Unit as well as to BPK and the Ministry of Finance as the most experienced and successful institutions in Bureaucracy reform implementation:
