Welcome to the World Bank Indonesia English country website. As you browse through our programs and projects, downloadable reports and economic updates, you will find a wealth of updated information on Indonesia’s progress in economic and social development and our efforts to support it. I would also draw your attention to the large grant-funded reconstruction program being implemented in partnership with government, donors and communities themselves. The Bank has been active in Indonesia since 1967, financing over 280 development projects and programs worth approximately $26 billion, in all sectors of the economy. Currently, the Bank has 28 active projects in Indonesia worth US$2.6 billion, 10 Multidonor Fund Aceh-Nias grants projects and three reconstruction projects in Java. In addition to its lending program of about a billion dollars annually, the World Bank Indonesia manages a billion dollars in grants. These grants support a range of activities from reconstruction in Aceh to governance, policy work and project preparation in sectors like education and health. Under the World Bank's Disclosure Policy, most of our documents are now available to the public. The development of this website is in line with our policy of transparency and our desire to bring the maximum amount of information available to Indonesian readers. For this reason our bahasa Indonesia site, which was launched in January 2007 will continue to add new features and translations of our latest reports and program news. Late last year we also launched our country office newsletter World Bank Indonesia Updates which goes out periodically to over 11,000 subscribers as of this writing, informing them of the release of major reports like Public Expenditure Reviews, Poverty Assessments and results of our programs like the Kecamatan Development Program and the Aceh Reconstruction program. I would encourage you to subscribe as you are interested in our work in Indonesia.
If you happen to be in Jakarta, I would like to invite you to visit our Indonesia Development Information Center in the Jakarta Stock Exchange Building, Tower II, 13th Floor. Our staff will be more than happy to assist you. If you have a general query, you could also call at (021) 5299-3146. For those of you not based in Jakarta, I should also mention that there are currently 16 Regional Information Centers which stock information about our work in Indonesia as well as other World Bank publications. These centers are located in the library of our partner universities in several provincial capitals around the country. The IDIS web page will provide you with a full listing of these locations. In addition, there are Information Centers at World Bank offices in Makassar, Banda Aceh and Jl Diponogoro in Jakarta where you will find information specifically related to multi-donor programs for Eastern Indonesia, Aceh Reconstruction and the Decentralization Support Facility. Thank you for visiting us and do write to us to let us know how we can improve our sites to better serve your needs, Joachim von Amsberg
